Children had lots of fun working with volunteers who used their ingenuity to create games and activities to help the children develop their language skills.
Chao Thai Mai Community English Camp
This camp at Chao Thai Mai Primary School was the first in a series of three 4Kali Community English Camps. Designed to teach students activity-based English and the value of community service, volunteers worked with 65 nine- to thirteen-year-olds, teaching English language skills in an activity-based setting. During the three-day camp, students cleared and replanted their school’s vegetable garden and painted donated furniture. These activities were supplemented by English lessons at the beginning and end of each day, as well as English language songs and games.

Koh Nok Community English Camp
At the Koh Nok Community English Camp, volunteers worked with fifty 9 -13 year olds teaching English language skills in an activity based setting. Students spent three days replanting the school’s vegetable garden, the crops from which are used to supplement the school lunches. The children also participated in completing the restoration begun by volunteers of their school’s playground.
The purpose of this camp was not only to help students improve their English language skills by exposing them to native speakers, but also to instill a sense of community responsibility through community service projects.
In preparation for the Koh Nok Community English Camp, volunteers restored the Koh Nok Primary School playground and football/soccer field. All irreparable equipment was removed and the other pieces were sanded down, fitted with replacement parts and painted. A new slide was purchased for the playground and the soccer goals were fitted with new nets.
At the Community Camp, students and volunteers decorated the playground’s new stepping stones and created English language signs to identify the equipment.
Tung Ma Phrow English Camp
4Kali.org put on an English camp at Tung Ma Phraow. The camp focused on activity-based English language instruction. Art and recreational activities were used as a vehicle for the development of basic vocabulary and conversation. The students were able to interact with the volunteers and learn the importance of team work and communication.
