Support-A-Child FAQHow do I sponsor a child? Please make use of our Sponsorship Inquiry Form if you are interested in supporting one of our children. What is the goal of the Support-A-Child program? The Support-A-child team aims to give aid to children whose families are unable to afford basic needs for their children such as food, clothing, school supplies, proper shelter, and quality health care. The program is designed to meet the individual needs of each child, with the end goal being that the child and family will eventually be able to become economically self-sufficient.What is the selection process 4Kali.org uses for including children in the progam? We select children for the program very carefully, as we are a small NGO dedicated to working directly with children in need. Before any child is suggested for sponsorship, we conduct a home visit in which the family and the chil's living sitution is assessed. The team writes an application for the child which is submitted to the Project Manager, who then reviews the case and makes a final decision about whether the child is in need of sponsorship. Factors influencing the final decision include the child's housing situation, health status, and his or her parent/guardian's employment status. We give priority to children who have not received financial aid from any other organizations. Were all the children in the program directly affected by the tsunami? No. Some hildren were indirectly affected by the tsunami, yet still have a great need for support. Some children may be from a non-tsunmi region but ewere financially supported by parents who worked in a tsunami region. Other children were orphaned prior to the tsunami, while others are underprivileged and living at or below the poverty level. Each child's profile provides detailed information about his or her particular situation. How much does it cost to support a child? Each child's individual needs are different; therefore monthly payments vary. Generally, the costs are between $40-$100 USD per month. Each child's profile indicates the monthly cost of supporting that particular child.Where will my money go?Your money will be deposited into the 4Kali.org SAC Account and then deposited into your sponsored child's account. Will I be able to communicate with my sponsored child?Yes! Donors are encouraged to write to their children. Local donors or those who visit the region are welcome to arrange a visit with their child(ren). For child protection purposes children's adresses are not released; therefore all communication goes through the 4Kali.org Thailand office. What time commitment am I expected to make while sponsoring a child?Donors are asked to sponsor a child for a minimum of one year. However, donors may choose to continue sponsorship until graduation, or until the family are able to become self-sufficient again. Why should I sponsor a child through 4Kali.org?One of the biggest advantages of sponsoring a 4Kali.org child is the personal attention we give the child. You can be assured that your child and his or her family will be visited regularly by a member of our team to ensure that your money is being spent appropriately. You will also receive updates on your child and a 4Kali.org newsletter.Unlike most child sponsorship programs who donate money to a child's community, you can rest assured that your donation will go to the child's immediate family, who in turn use the money for their child. Because we regularly conduct home visits, we may find that a child's situation has fluctuated from what it was at orignal assessment. If a special circumstance arises (e.g. a child becomes sick) we may ask for an optional increase in monthly support. Accordingly, if we determine that a child's situation has vastly improved we may suggest a reduction in monthly support. We at 4Kali.org realize that individual children's needs vary greatly, and our sponsored children receive support, financial and otherwise, that is tailored to meet their specific and evolving needs.
